Buying the Right Size of Towable RV

A towable RV is the perfect way to elevate your travels, but it can be hard finding the perfect one. One of the first considerations on your RV hunt should be the size of RV you’re looking for. We here at C&R Auto & Trailer Sales want to make sure you get exactly what you need, so we’ve put together a brief guide to the different sizes of RV available. To learn more, or to see the RVs we have for sale, contact our store in Tremonton, Utah, today!

Pop-Up Campers

These are basically towable tents, 8-16 feet long. They can house up to 6 people, but fold for easier transportation and storage. The amenities included depend on the model, but they can have working kitchens and bathrooms with limited privacy. Pop-up campers are perfect for a more rustic RV that still provides a few home-style comforts, though some models are basic enough that it’s just a tent on a flat, dry, raised platform.

Travel Trailers

These are more variable in size and luxury. The smallest travel trailers are around 13 feet, but there are options up to 40 feet long, making them potentially some of the largest RVs out there. Larger models can easily accommodate 8 people, and the features vary by the size, sometimes including private bathrooms, full kitchens and bathrooms, fireplaces, and more. There are also models, either smaller or just more utilitarian ones, that have more basic amenities to allow you to focus on the great outdoors.

Toy Haulers

Toy haulers tend to be fairly large at 21-40 feet long and able to accommodate around 11 people, but they sometimes have fewer luxuries than similarly-sized travel trailers. This is because the rear portion of these RVs is a garage space, designed to allow you to bring a powersports vehicle of some kind with you. These are great campers for going to races or rallies, or for bringing to off-roading parks, but it can also be converted into more sleeping space. That rear space can also be converted into a work space to give you the perfect mobile office!

Fifth Wheels

Fifth wheels are also typically larger, ranging between 20-40 feet in length. They tend to be spacious and luxurious, easily able to accommodate up to 8 people. Where these campers differ from travel trailers is the hitch style, which is designed to connect to modified pickup truck beds. This hitch makes them more stable and agile than travel trailers, since they have some overlap with the tow vehicle.
